Rationale and Purpose

Teaching during our time of global change is an important and exciting position. As teachers we have the opportunity to develop students who will be able to adapt and find ways to be successful in the future. We also have the chance to stress the importance of cultural acceptance. These two things will be crucial in a student’s future success. Many students do not realize the importance of what is happening half way around the world. They have an “out of sight, out of mind” perspective and think that outsourcing does not affect them or their future.

India is quickly becoming a more powerful nation as many jobs are shifted from the United States and other countries to India. There are many factors that contribute to India’s ability to quickly become so successful. We would like to discover how the education and business systems help them learn to adapt quickly and become so successful.

We will travel to India to explore and visit various institutions such as schools, businesses, training facilities, and other culturally important places to determine

  1. How their culture and education contributes to their ability to adapt to an ever-changing environment.
  2. What differences exist between business practices in the US and India.
  3. How we can makes changes in our schools to better prepare students for their global future.

We believe that by finding the answers to these questions we can close the widening gap so our students will be more internationally competitive.

Students are engaged and become intrigued by what their futures may hold and we would love to have more information to share with them- information experienced first hand, not just what we read in books and articles. We want our students to learn for the sake of learning, not only to pass a test. We want them to find things they are passionate about and travel the world to learn about these topics while developing tolerance towards other cultures. We believe that by traveling the world to discover the answers to our questions, we are emulating lifelong learners for our students.
